Prancing Peacock

Most Japanese Maples are a quite spectacular in the garden.  They're graceful, soothing and well behaved.

A handful make a loud statement in the landscape.  One of the attention getters is the Fern Leaf Maple.  It's stage name is the Dancing Peacock Maple. It likes to prance around in the shade while all the other plants look wistfully at it.  This maple's large leaves have lobes that fan out like a Peacock's tail.  They stand up above the branches attracting lots of second looks.

Acer japonicum 'Maiku jaku' is the academic name but all the hip gardeners who need personality in a shady spot know to ask for Dancing Peacock.
