Fall Chores

Pruning is only one thing on the checklist for this time of year.

All the mulch that accumulated over the year around the trees can be raked away.  The rain will penetrate faster and the water won't puddle around trunks.  Plus, any groundcover that grew too close to trunks can be pulled away.  The groundcover will steal water and slow it from soaking into the ground for trees.  Ivy is the worst culprit [see picture].

Any pruning cuts made near the base of the tree need to be kept free of dirt and weeds.
